The Association of National Olympic Committees recently had a General Assembly where the executive council’s recommendation to choose San Diego as the host of pioneering 2017 World beach Games was unanimously accepted.

This sporting event is envisioned to accommodate multiple sport in the Olympic style with a budget of $150 million. Mission Beach will be the venue where around 20 sports could be featured, such as beach volleyball, soccer and tennis and watersports like surfing and jet-skiing, etc.

ANOC president, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, states that San Diego’s proposed plan left everyone impressed. A Dow Jones Sport Intelligence report, which was commissioned to research the city’s capacities for such a sporting event, verified that the city fulfils important criteria.

The proposal that melds sport, culture and entertainment was devised in cooperation with industry experts, says Al-Fahad Al-Sabah. Everyone believes San Diego is the perfect choice to inaugurate World beach Games.

The ANOC World Beach Games are in complete alignment with 2020 Olympic Agenda. They are expected to bring something new and impressive that will especially appeal to the whole generation of young people. They are also expected to leave a positive milestone in the Olympic legacy.

Many cities across the globe were interested in hosting the event. The Dow Jones report was carefully studied before the final decision was made last week in Washington.

San Diego received unanimous approval as the first host of World Beach Games, after which the city’s exploratory committee was invited to make their presentation to the 204 National Olympic Committees who were attending the Washington assembly.

The main goal of the ANOC president was to organize an event that will reconnect with millions of young people across the world. This means expanding the events program to include various cultural and entertainment features. The final number of sports hasn’t been set yet, but around 20 are planned. Some of them will be voted on, so that all National Committees are actively engaged in the event development.
